On February 2, Best Buy notified (pdf) the New Hampshire Attorney General of a security breach involving an employee stealing customer credit card data at the Best Buy store at 1880 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. in West Palm Beach.
The problem was detected on January 5, and the employee was taken into custody by the Secret Service on January 7. Best Buy is investigating the possibility that the employee was stealing customer credit card information throughout November and December.
According to their statement, the employee was reportedly palming a skimmer and using it to swipe the customers’ credit cards. Best Buy’s computer system was not breached.
One resident of New Hampshire was affected, but the total number of customers affected was not reported.
