As an update to a case that started in 2007 and that has been previously covered on my blogs: the Associated Press is reporting that Dr. Lisa Barden, the California physician accused of stealing patients’ and colleagues’ identities as part of a prescription drug fraud sceme, has pleaded guilty to 274 counts.
Barden had been charged with 276 counts, and for reasons that are unknown to me at this time, reportedly pleaded not guilty to two of them, for which she will stand trial. It is also unknown at this point how many patients’ and colleagues’ identities she admitted to misusing as part of her criminal conduct. The government had previously indicated that she had been found in possession of 93 patients’ information.
