Howard Buck reports:
Vancouver Public Schools said on Monday it had discovered a “security breach” in its payroll data system that threatens the release of district employees’ personal information, such as names, birth dates and Social Security numbers.
Also, the banking account numbers of employees who use direct deposit “have been compromised,” the district said in a news release.
Superintendent Steve Webb said it’s not known how many employees are affected, or to what extent.
“We don’t have a clear sense of how serious a breach this might have been,” Webb said late Monday. Asked whether the problem originated from within or outside the district, he said, “We simply don’t know.”
