This sounds ugly. Michael Hewlett reports:
Bruce Peller, who lost the Democratic primary for the 5th Congressional District seat, is accusing his former campaign manager, Christopher Church, of stealing information about 10,000 current and former patients from a computer at Peller’s dental practice.
Church has fired back, accusing Peller of emailing him the information and telling him to call the patients to support his congressional campaign. Peller disputes that.
[…]
In a news release Monday, Peller said he notified the patients about the alleged data breach. He filed a complaint and a motion for a preliminary injunction May 29 against Church in Forsyth Superior Court, asking that Church return any records he has. Peller has not pursued criminal charges.
Peller alleges that Church broke into a computer and printed the patient information, which included names, email addresses, treatment dates and home addresses, to distribute to third parties. Church also uploaded the information to an online data storage service, Peller alleges in the complaint.
