Mainichi reports:
A 39-year-old systems engineer was arrested Thursday over a massive customer data theft from Benesse Holdings Inc. on suspicion of copying confidential business data from the major correspondence education provider for children, police said.
Masaomi Matsuzaki is alleged to have downloaded and copied Benesse’s data covering some 10.19 million customers — including such information as names, addresses and birth dates of children — onto his smartphone at a Tokyo office of its affiliate, Synform Co., on June 17, while he was working on a temporary contract at a database management contractor for Synform.
