Hospitals in the Central Visayas region are strengthening their policies on patients’ right to privacy, particularly the prohibition of cellular phones and cameras in operating rooms, after an embarrassing video of a rectal operation found its way on the worldwide video-sharing site YouTube.
Center for Health Development Central Visayas Director Dr. Susana Madarieta told the Inquirer that more than 100 private and government hospitals in Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor were undertaking a review of privacy regulations after the breach was traced to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC).
