First they lost their school. Now students in Russell have been stripped of their privacy, some parents say.
Parents allege that school and health records for dozens of students ended up in the trash or on the auction block after crews cleaned out Russell’s only school building. State officials decided in March to shut down the small, cash-strapped school district last month.
Advertisement“I’m just sick about it,” said Desiree Hundley, who claims a file with her 7-year-old daughter’s name, respiratory illness and prescription drug information ended up in the wrong hands. “My fear is, what else is out there?”
Parents said teens found a book of grades for fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders as they looked in a Dumpster for band uniforms and other school relics.
A Russell mother said she found medical files for more than 100 students in a file cabinet she bought at a school auction.
