David Carroll reports:
A Howard High School student is being investigated on several counts of identity theft, according to officials from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and the Chattanooga Police Department.
The student, reportedly a 15-year-old male, has been the subject of an ongoing investigation by the Fraud Department in Chattanooga and School Resource Officers in Hamilton County. He has been suspended from Hamilton County schools.
The series of incidents began in September of 2008, when the student was arrested by city officers for stealing the personal information of a Howard teacher. According to the police report, the student “was arrested for obtaining a credit application at the Guitar Center at 2200 Hamilton Place Boulevard using (the teacher’s) identity. The defendant gave the employee (the teacher’s) personal information such as, name and social security number. Therefore the application was approved and the defendant purchased some items at the store.”
