Earlier this week, Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company notified (pdf) the Maryland Attorney General’s Office that on January 6, it had inadvertently sent a report containing personal information to another client. The recipient immediately notified MassMutual of its error and reportedly shredded the document without further dissemination.
The total number of individuals affected by the exposure was not reported, but the personal information included names, addresses, dates of birth, and social security numbers.
In its letter to three Maryland residents who were impacted by the breach, MassMutual referenced personal information “such as your name and social security number.” The letter references a Mylan Pharmaceuticals contract number, suggesting that the individuals affected may have some connection to that company.
