A laptop stolen from an employee’s desk in mid-December contained names and social security numbers of people employed by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) as readers, according to a report filed (pdf) with the Maryland Attorney General’s Office this week.
The laptop, which had been locked into its docking station, does not appear to have been encrypted, and ETS reports that it is boosting its security by enhancing physical security measures at all offices, deploying comprehensive “military-grade” encryption on all laptops, and implementing strong password protection with the passwords being changed regularly.
ETS is offering those affected one year of free credit monitoring services.
