If somebody hasn’t formed a fan club for Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, they really should. He is one of the absolute best AG’s when it comes to going after companies that breach privacy by improper disposal of sensitive records or who fail to protect personal information. From a press release last week (via claimsjournal.com):
Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has charged an Edinburg fitness center with failing to adequately store and safeguard documents that contained customers’ sensitive personal information. Under the Identity Theft Enforcement and Protection Act, businesses are legally required to implement procedures that ensure customers’ sensitive personal information – including Social Security, Driver’s License, and financial account numbers – is protected from unlawful use or disclosure.
