An IRS worker is facing serious federal charges for stealing money from the government for six straight months.
The U.S. attorney said between May and November of 2007, Indianapolis IRS worker Angela Bennett illegally used a special IRS database to obtain people’s personal information, like social security numbers, to file six phony tax returns.
“She was not authorized to go roaming around and accessing people’s personal information at random, and that’s what she did. They found 285 times that she accessed people’s information, totally unrelated to her duties,” says U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, Timothy Morrison.
