Richard Deschamps of radio station CJAD reports:
If you’ve ever gotten a traffic ticket from the city of Montreal, there’s a good chance it, along with a lot of your personal information, might have wound up in a place where anyone looking to steal personal information might have had access to it.
An investigation by a local paper shows thousands of the tickets coming from the Montreal courthouse were found, unshredded, in a recycling plant in Lasalle.
…. And the city says, somewhat sheepishly, they never thought they had to shred the old tickets, even though they contain people’s names, addresses, drivers’ licence numbers, and the make, model and licence plate numbers of people’s cars.
