Veronika Belenkaya of The NY Daily News reports that the law firm of Frenkel Lambert Weiss Weisman & Gordon cleaned house by leaving six dumpsters stuffed with confidential case files out on the street. The firm represents clients such as Wells Fargo Bank, Papa John’s Pizza, and others in the banking and insurance industries.
According to a law firm partner, the firm had hired a licensed and bonded company to handle the disposal of files and they are investigating what had happened.
Take a look at the picture in the story to see the risk of exposure or of people just helping themselves to files. Any national data breach law really does need to encompass paper records and not just electronic records.
