Irwin M. Goldberg of The Poughkeepsie Journal reports:
Health Quest voluntarily moved up and expanded its largest capital improvement project after a federal investigation into the theft of a laptop from its emergency room in July 2006.
Vassar Brothers Medical Center implemented nine “corrective actions” as a result of the incident, according to a letter sent to Health Quest in October 2008 by the U.S. Office of Civil Rights and obtained by the Journal through a Freedom of Information Act request.
Earlier coverage of the incident can be found here and here (pdf). Two patients reportedly filed HIPAA complaints with HHS/OCR over the incident.
