Legislation requiring Tennessee health care providers to release a minor child’s medical test results to their parents advanced in the House Judiciary Committee Wednesday amid a daylong clash of wills between the bill’s opponents and its sponsor — state Rep. Tony Shipley.
An amended version of Shipley’s bill deferred to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), a federal law that includes a privacy rule involving minors.
