Not much meat to the report, but WKRC, Local12.com in Ohio, is reporting that:
A laptop missing from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department is putting some people in jeopardy of identity theft. A letter was sent out to those affected. The sheriff’s department says the computer contained personal information, including social security numbers.
There doesn’t seem to be any statement on the sherriff’s office’s web site. I’ve written to them to request more info, and will update this entry if I receive it.
Update 7-13-09: A spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office informs me that the data contained 2 1/2 year-old data on employees. Although the office believes that there is very little chance of accessing the data, employees have been notified.
