A waiter using an electronic “skimmer” stole credit card information from at least 100 patrons at restaurants in Jersey City and Newark and then gave the information to an identity theft ring that racked up tens of thousands of dollars worth of fraudulent purchases, officials said.
A month-long probe involving Hudson County and federal authorities has so far led to the arrests of Joaquin Martinez, 31, of Weehawken, Anuar Prado, 35, of Elizabeth and Julian Garcia, 27, of Newark, First Assistant Hudson County Prosecutor Guy Gregory said today…. Police are still trying to track down Dayron Rendon, 30, of Belleville, who contacted the prosecutor’s office yesterday and Wednesday saying he was going to turn himself in but apparently got cold feet, Gregory said.
Gregory refused to name the waiter or the restaurants involved.
