A file containing bank account information for 314 city residents [Rutland, Vermont] who participate in the city’s direct debit tax payment program was inadvertently uploaded to the city’s Web site for a seven-day period earlier this month. Those affected were notified by the Treasurer’s Office late last week.

Statistics for the city’s Web site show that, between Sept. 2 and Sept. 10, when the error was spotted and the document removed, only three unique visitors accessed the file containing information intended for TD Banknorth, she said. Some of those visits are believed to have come from staff inside the Treasurer’s Office, she said.
Additionally, only 15 accounts on the list contained enough information to constitute a security breach by state law, Wilton said.
