As a follow-up to a case reported previously, the Associated Press reports that Shanell Bowser has been sentenced to five years in prison and was ordered to pay more than $200,000 in restitution to the victims of an identity theft scheme.
Bowser, who was employed by medical claims adjustment firm Crawford & Company, had access to names, Social Security numbers and other personal information from clients and from Johns Hopkins Hospital. In conjunction with her co-conspirator, Michelle Courtney Johnson, who was employed by the hospital, she reportedly opened at least 125 fraudulent accounts in the names of 89 people.
