Amanda Crook reports:
A dentist who lost the records of 10,000 patients will be allowed to continue working.
Omer Butt left computers and filing cabinets in a van parked on a road in Cheetham Hill while his practice Unsworth Smile Clinic, in Prestwich, was being refurbished. The van and the private dental records were stolen one night in July last year.
Mr Butt was found guilty of misconduct by the General Dental Council for failing to keep patients’ records safe and the watchdog says the information is still not properly safeguarded.

If the data are still not properly secured more than a year after the incident and the practice is allowed to remain open, is there a warning posted to patients as they enter that says, “This practice has been found to have sloppy security and privacy practices and your personal records are still at risk?”
