The University of Calgary is advising patients of its Sunridge Medical Clinic that their personal health information may have been compromised after several computer viruses infected one of the clinic’s computers.
The University said Wednesday in a press release it sent letters to approximately 5,000 patients on March 15.
The infected computer was used to store copies of faxes, medical legal reports and billing data. Affected information includes patient demographics; patient referrals; health insurance; billing codes; and Alberta Health Care numbers. The university says the viruses may have allowed unauthorized third parties to access the information remotely.
