Rob Shaw reports:
The Vancouver Island Health Authority has admitted it accidentally mailed the confidential health records of 13 clients to the wrong address, and didn’t know the files were missing until people started to complain.
The records, which contained mental and physical evaluations of clients, were supposed to go into the inter-office mail system late last month, said VIHA spokeswoman Suzanne Germain.
Instead, someone put the wrong address on the package and shipped all the documents in an unsealed envelope to a Victoria woman who happened to be one of the 13 clients. The health authority didn’t know about the mistake until April 6, when a relative of one of the clients called to complain, said Germain.
