A Malaysian national wanted by Australian police over a huge card-skimming operation has been arrested at Darwin airport.
The man had been implicated in a syndicate which allegedly stole money from Victorian teller machines, using data stolen from interstate bank account-holders.
The man, 24, was arrested by Australian Customs Service officers at Darwin Airport on Sunday night.
A second Malaysian national was detained at the Sydney Airport yesterday morning.
Detectives from the Melbourne Criminal Investigation Unit, who had asked to be notified if the men tried to leave Australia, have flown to Darwin and Sydney to seek their extradition back to Victoria. The men are allegedly linked to a group which stole the bank details of people who used their cards to pay for food at McDonalds restaurants in New South Wales.
Fake Eftpos devices were allegedly used to steal the data from the cards magnetic strips.
