The Associated Press reports:
A traffic stop in Tampa has lead to the arrest of two men who forged documents using public jail inmate data.
Police say 21-year-old Bobby Wilson Jr. and 24-year-old Sebastian Leonard face over 130 charges each of identity theft, including fraudulent use of personal information and obtaining credit cards by fraudulent means.
[…]
Wilson told investigators they used names and personal information of inmates found on websites to apply for the cards.
Once again, it seems, public records are being used for fraud or ID theft. Any bets as to whether the entities that posted these data, which are often public records under state laws, will change their practices or whether they just continue making it easier for ID thieves?
