Brendan Wedley reports:
More than 25,000 medical records containing personal information and about 70 computer hard drives were left behind at the former St. Joseph’s hospital when Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) sold the site in October last year, the hospital revealed on Thursday.
The records are what hospital officials call working documents, not patient charts.
They include records such as blood tests, hearing tests, pharmacy files, X-ray slides and about 800 files from oncology clinical trials in 2003.
The hospital recovered documents on Thursday after the new owner of the property told the PRHC about discovering the medical records on Wednesday, hospital president and CEO Ken Tremblay said.
“The documents contain information such as patient names, addresses and in some cases diagnoses,” he said. “Former patients and family members can rest assured that their medical records are in fact complete. Patient charts have not been compromised in any way.”
