While students were enjoying fall break last week, someone broke into two Murfreesboro schools. Four computers were stolen, and now officials are trying to figure out if there was any personal information of students that could be in the hands of thieves.

Ironically, this is just the point I was making the other day in commenting on the Nashville Metro District‘s comments that all sensitive data were secure in locked offices — even though they are not encrypted. “Special access and passwords” simply don’t provide adequate security.
