Yesterday, I included an item about a junior doctor who violated security rules and uploaded patient data to his laptop, which was then stolen from his home.
Today’s coverage in the Yorkshire Post indicates that the hospital involved is the Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital, which is overseen by Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
By my notes, that NHS Trust has been named in other privacy or security breaches over the past few years. In 2009, it signed an undertaking with the ICO after one computer with patient information was lost, and another stolen during office refurbishment. There have also been reported incidents of employees snooping in patient records. The most publicized incident involved an employee who pleaded guilty in September to snooping in over 400 patients’ records.
