In a follow-up to a breach reported last month on this blog, Brian Rogers reports:
A Pearland man has been charged with identity theft in a scheme that used Social Security numbers of doctors and vendors at Texas Children’s Hospital to open more than 100 electricity accounts, prosecutors said.

In court today, Assistant Harris County District Attorney Ed McClees said the stolen identities appear to have come from Texas Children’s Hospital, but that it is unclear how Bell got them. Court records show that the stolen identities came from the accounts payable division.

Update: Apparently, this was the second arrest made in conjunction with this case. Last month, Catherine Ceasar was arrested and charged with using stolen names and SSN to open electric accounts. Police are reportedly looking for the person who actually stole the information.
