TX: Confidential tax documents litter neighborhood

Posted on March 14, 2011 by Dissent

Jonathan Betz of WFAA in Texas reports that a Fort Worth neighborhood was littered with dozens of tax documents containing names, addresses, and Social Security Numbers.

Nearly all said they had their taxes prepared at a North Dallas tax service. An employee there told News 8 he was aware of the security breach, and blamed a stolen briefcase.

But how the pages ended up 45 miles away in Fort Worth, blowing in the breeze, is still a mystery..

Haggerty is deeply disturbed by the revelation. “Anybody could just walk by and pick your name out of the air,” she said.

News 8 could not get in touch with the owner of the tax service on Sunday.

Read more in KHOU.

Why wasn’t the tax service named in the news report? And where was the briefcase stolen from? An unattended vehicle? Someone’s home? Their office?
