The Belfast Trust is reassuring cancer patients their medical records are safe, after an inquiry was launched by the Information Commissioner following a major security breach.
It is claimed up to twenty thousand x-rays and patient files were abandoned at the old Belvoir Park hospital in 2008.
The Belfast Trust said all patients’ records at the disused site were safely removed and relocated to the new Cancer Centre at Belfast City hospital when it opened in 2006.
They admitted however, that some images awaiting disposal/relocation were vandalised during a break- in back in 2008.
They claim they did not inform the Information Commissioner at the time because the data lost was not sensitive.
