Minna Sugimoto reports:
A former beauty queen who went on shopping sprees using the stolen identities of complete strangers was sentenced to 20 years in prison Wednesday.
Prosecutors sought a 30-year prison term for Susan Shaw, calling her a manipulative and cunning identity thief who went to great lengths to conceal her criminal activities and caused substantial financial harm to her victims.
The defendant pleaded guilty to 140 charges in what has been described as the largest identity theft case ever in Honolulu. Prosecutors say she victimized at least 23 individuals and seven credit card issuers, resulting in about $200,000 in losses.
