Hacker fallout: Partial Tory donors list posted online

Posted on June 8, 2011 by Dissent

Mark Kennedy reports:

In a significant security breach, the Conservative party has confirmed that hackers who gained access this week to the party’s website retrieved the names, addresses and email addresses of some people who made financial contributions to the Tories.

Moreover, the Conservatives said Wednesday that in some instances the hackers got partial credit card information, but that none of it was “useful” and that the party’s internal database was not breached.

The Tories’ revelation came after a Twitter user, who claimed responsibilibity for hacking into the party website Tuesday, posted the names of hundreds of people on Wednesday who were said to be financial donors.
