On May 9, LexisNexis notified the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office that personal information accessed from their database by one of their clients may have been misused.
From September 10, 2009 through March 2, 2011, Onyx Collections and Locators Services, Inc. in Atlanta had access to the database which contains information such as name, address, Social Security Number, driver’s license number, and/or date of birth.
According to the letter sent by LexisNexis, the firm recently conducted an audit of Onyx, the results of which, in conjunction with other information they obtained, raised concern that personal information accessed by Onyx may have been misused. LexisNexis reported the matter to federal law enforcement who opened an investigation and notified consumers as soon as law enforcement indicated notification would not compromise their investigation. Seventy-four New Hampshire residents are among those who were notified.
A Google search for “Onyx Collections and Locators Services” finds no web site but information they provided to the Consumer Advisory Council indicates an address of 6961 Peachtree Industrial Blvd, Norcross, GA 30092. Another listing, on Yelp, indicates that their phone number is (770) 409-1412. Significantly perhaps, the listing with the CAC indicates that Onyx Collections and Locators Services incorporated in September 2009, the same month they started accessing LexisNexis’s database. Another firm, “Onyx Investigations,” is also listed at the same address, but with a phone number of (770) 676-7184.
