David Cecil gets half the hacking charges dropped

MORE than half of the computer hacking charges against Cowra man David Cecil, 25, have been withdrawn. In Orange Local Court on Friday Cecil was committed for sentence to the next sitting of the District Court in Orange in February 2012.Cecil has pleaded guilty to two counts of causing interference to and modification of restricted data. The unemployed truck driver faces a further 20 charges of hacking into the network of a service provider of the National Broadband Network (NBN).In late July, Cecil’s home was raided by Australian Federal Police, who seized several items of computer equipment from the home he shared with his partner. At the time police alleged he was trawling through networks using the name “Evil”.He was refused bail at his first two court appearances subsequent to his arrest. He is now on bail on the condition he resides with his partner in Cowra and does not access the internet unless authorised by an employer. At the time of his arrest, Australian Federal Police said they had been monitoring Cecil’s internet activity for six months. post from when david got arrested
