An [sic] laptop computer stolen from a business associated with Hartford Hospital and its sister home-health care group contains personal information of nearly 10,000 patients, the hospital said Monday.
Officials from the hospital and VNA HealthCare learned on June 26 that the laptop had been stolen from the home of an employee of Greenplum, a subsidiary of a hospital vendor, EMC Corp., according to a press release from hospital spokeswoman Rebecca Stewart.

Greenplum was performing data analysis for EMC on the hospital’s behalf as a part of a quality-improvement project.
The laptop contained information about 7,461 VNA HealthCare patients and 2,097 Hartford Hospital patients, Stewart’s release states. The information includes names, addresses, dates of birth, marital status, Social Security numbers, Medicaid and Medicare numbers, medical record numbers and certain diagnosis and treatment information, she said.
