The Herald-Citizen reports:
Tennessee Tech University sent letters to 42 former and current employees yesterday informing them of a security breach related to personal identifying information.
Through a cooperative effort between the university and the Cookeville Police Department, Tennessee Tech University learned that alleged criminal acts by a former TTU employee have resulted in unauthorized access to personal information of 42 former, current, adjunct and student university employees.

“Through a cooperative effort” seems like PR-speak for “We never discovered the breach on our own and had to be told about it.”
The university has arranged for an external audit of their security protocols.
Although the university knows of 42 instances of data access or misuse, it is sending notifications to 11,000 current and former employees to alert them to check their accounts for signs of fraud.
