Over on HIPAA, HITECH, & HIT, Michael Kline wonders why a third breach involving Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary flew under the media radar and why it hasn’t appeared on HHS’s breach tool. Both are good questions. Certainly there’s an interest in wrong-doing by insiders in the healthcare sector, and this blog has reported numerous instances of that kind of breach – including the third Massachusetts Eye & Ear incident. But other than the Patriot Ledger, where was the mainstream media coverage?
And when we don’t see something on HHS’s breach tool, is it because the entity didn’t report the breach, or did they report it but with less than 500 affected, or did they report it and HHS is just backlogged in entering reports?
It’s a puzzlement.
