Here’s something that I stumbled across while researching something else. Sun News Staff reports:
A Solon dentist was indicted by a Cuyahoga County grand jury earlier this month for looking up personal information on an ex-girlfriend using the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy database. Between March 10 and Dec. 26, 2012, Dr. Fred Glick, 55, of Russell, used the computer network to obtain information on individuals who were not his current patients, including the woman, her lawyer and her current boyfriend. When the female patient broke off their relationship after six years and moved to another residence, Glick also used the OARRS database to obtain information as to where she was currently living. The charge is a low-level felony.
An indictment is not a conviction, of course, and he is presumed innocent.
It’s not clear from available media reports how the alleged misuse of the database was detected – whether it was by internal means and the OARRS IT personnel, or if the woman discovered what was happening and reported it to the state, or via some other means.
This is not the first time Dr. Glick has been in trouble with the state. In looking into this matter, I discovered that Dr. Glick had been before the Ohio State Dental Board in February 2001 after his license was suspended in December 2000 due to drug-related charges. An investigator’s report, provided to the board, indicated that Dr. Glick had been arrested on charges involving possession of narcotics and aggravated menacing. Dr. Glick had reportedly confessed to a chemical dependency problem and had undergone a treatment program with aftercare. Dr. Glick’s license to practice dentistry was reinstated by the board. Dr. Glick also signed a consent order with the board in 2011 on unrelated matters.
It will be interesting to see how the state dental board responds to the criminal charges and whether this situation leads to license suspension, revocation, or nothing. I sent an email inquiry to the state dental board asking whether indictment would automatically trigger suspension, but have not gotten a response as of the time of this posting.
The woman reported it to the pharmacy board.
Thanks. If you have a published link/report on that, I’d appreciate it.
