Patrick M. Walker reports:
School district officials said Thursday that they have heard from one employee whose financial information has been compromised since two laptops were stolen from the Arlington district’s benefits office last week.
However, district spokeswoman Leslie Johnston said, it was not known whether the unauthorized activity was directly related to the theft.
If other employees have noticed potentially fraudulent use of their bank or credit accounts, she said, “We encourage them to contact the district and let us know.”
The two laptops were stolen overnight May 27 and were noticed missing on May 28, Johnston said. On May 29, officials became aware that the laptops contained personal information on employees and some former retirees, and the notification process began, she said.
