A former employee of Boca Raton Regional Hospital was sentenced to 18 months in prison for stealing patient records as part of a tax refund fraud scheme.
Shalamar Major, of Deerfield Beach, was a scheduler at the hospital. She was convicted of unauthorized disclosures of medical records, using stolen Social Security numbers to file fraudulent tax claims and conspiracy to commit false claims.
In addition to her sentence, Major must pay $15,795 in restitution to the IRS.
Co-defendant Tanisha Wright, also of Deerfield Beach, was sentenced to 40 months in prison. She was charged with promising to pay Major for the patient information stolen from the hospital and then filing the fraudulent income tax returns.
