We’re finding out about some healthcare sector breaches from state attorneys general sooner than from HHS, it seems.
Sometime during the weekend of September 14 – 15, a laptop with unencrypted patient information was stolen from the Audiology Department at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. The theft was discovered on September 16.
The laptop, which was used for hearing screenings and as such, contained patients’ name, medical record number, date of birth, gender, date of service, and “brainwaves from testing.”
You can read a copy of Santa Clara Valley Health & Hospital System’s notification to patients here (pdf). At the time of this posting, there is no notice on the medical center’s web site or on the hospital system’s web site.
