Desperately seeking justification to oppose Obamacare, some members of GOP demonstrate ignorance of HIPAA

Do they really think we’re stupid?

Yesterday, I noted Rep. Joe Barton’s ridiculous questioning concerning whether Healthcare.gov violates HIPAA.  Rep. Barton was not the only member of the GOP trying to use scare tactics about HIPAA and the site, however.  Watch this exchange between   CNN’s Carol Costello and Rep. Marsha Blackburn:

Look, folks, there are certainly privacy and data security concerns swirling around healthcare.gov that do warrant our consideration and attention. But HIPAA compliance is not one of them because the site is not covered by HIPAA’s Privacy Rule. Got it?
