Veteran Affairs' E-Benefits website exposing veterans' information

Posted on January 16, 2014 by Dissent

Jon Camp reports:

Navy veteran Sylvester Woodland said he couldn’t believe what he was seeing Wednesday night when he logged onto the Veteran Affairs’ E-Benefits website.

“It gave me a different person’s name, each and every time I came back,” Woodland said. At first I thought it was just a glitch, but the more I thought about it, I said, wait a minute, this is more than a glitch, this is a breach.”

Woodland was on the VA’s E-Benefits website trying to track down his own history for a bank loan. Instead, windows kept popping up displaying other veterans’ medical and financial information.

“When you click on these hyperlinks here, it takes you to the bank account, the direct deposit, bank account, last four, what bank is it for,” Woodland said. “I’ll bet he has no idea that I’m sitting here in my house with his information.”

I had problems accessing EBennies all day. So i google and the first result i find is that im not the only one. Then 3 posts dow someone posted the info of the person they were on and to my surprise Mine was the next and then refferred to again and again and also someone commenting that i had some serious conditions needing attention(not wanting my info out there) a total of 43 times in one thread. So i googled what i could and have found That my info was on multiple sites ab8 letter poted along with others and more info from different tabs. Call mPeggyi.e. 18008271000 they get me to tell them what i saw and what happened to just be told eventually someone would get back to me , and yet i asked who or when i can follow-up with to no avail. This is Horrible and an invasion of my privacy.

Could you email me the links where you saw this thread or these posts? I won’t post any info about you here, but would like to see what you’re talking about. My email address is [email protected]. Also, please follow-up here and let me/us know if you receive a breach notification letter, and if so, from whom, etc.
