OH: Former Urban League boss off to prison

Posted on January 18, 2014 by Dissent

A former Columbus Urban League executive accused of ripping off the agency was sentenced Friday to spend 3.5 years in federal prison.

Former preacher Ovell Harrison had pleaded guilty to one count of bank fraud and aggravated identity theft. In addition to his prison sentenced, he was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of the money he reportedly stole: $85,000.  The sentence came nearly three years after ABC 6 Investigators revealed how Harrison took advantage of those seeking his agency’s help.

Investigators said Harrison stole the identities of four people he knew, some of whom were Urban League clients. Harrison reportedly used their private information to set up at least three fake bank accounts and to submit false invoices.
