Health Minister Fred Horne said Tuesday he is in the process of considering amendments to provincial legislation in the wake of Alberta’s largest privacy breach, that saw the health information of 620,000 Medicentres patients lost.

“I am in the process now of considering amendments to the Health Information Act. I’ve always said that my main concern in this situation was the interval of time that had gone by since anyone heard about the laptop that is missing at Medicentres,” Horne said Tuesday. “All I can do is try to put myself in the position of someone whose personal information may have been compromised, so certainly anything we can do in the act itself to strengthen the requirements around disclosure and reporting of this, we’ll certainly look at.”
