Subject: Financial Aid Office Notice About PrivacyDear student:
This message is to inform you of a recent security breach that affects you. A document containing some of your personal information was inadvertently emailed from the Financial Aid Office to 14 Loyola Law School students at approximately 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2014. The information included name, internal system ID number (not student ID number), Social Security number, graduation year, academic status (not grades) and program (JD, LLM), as well as loan type and amount, for some students graduating in spring 2014. The 14 recipients, all members of the class graduating in May 2014, were each contacted and asked to purge the file from their systems and confirm the deletion once complete.
The Law School takes privacy seriously. It acts in strict adherence with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. It already has security procedures in place to prevent data loss, and the administration has confirmed that this was an isolated incident. The Law School will review its privacy and security protocol in light of this incident to prevent a similar occurrence.
