Another case of a McDonald’s employee using a skimmer to swipe customers’ payment card data. Erika Pesantes reports that the employee was recruited via social media, and the recruiter was nabbed via social media:
Police say a North Lauderdale man used social media to recruit the restaurant worker to steal financial information using a skimming device.
Adrian Liggins, 19, faces fraud charges and was ordered held on a $25,000 bond during his first-appearance court hearing on Wednesday.

The McDonald’s worker said she met “Adrian” on Facebook and the popular social media app, Instagram and he soon asked her if she wanted to make money, police said. He later met with her and supplied her with the skimming machine, officials said.
The woman told detectives that she used the machine to skim about 20 customers’ cards during each of her shifts at the drive-thru window. The number of shifts during which the skimming took place was not clear on Wednesday.
Investigators used social media to turn the tables on Liggins.
When detectives checked Liggins’ Instagram account, they learned his identity after spotting a photo of his high school diploma with his full name on it. They also retrieved cellphone texts between the McDonald’s employee and Liggins discussing payment and how to use the skimming device.
