NY: Funeral home worker to be questioned in ID theft case at Albany Medical Center

Posted on May 21, 2014 by Dissent

Bryan Fitzgerald provides an update to a breach noted previously on this blog:

A longtime funeral home employee will be questioned by investigators on Wednesday about his possible connection to an identity theft ring uncovered earlier this month that allegedly involves an  Albany Medical Center Hospital  nurse, said Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple. The interrogation, Apple said, could help reveal why coroner’s notes were among evidence collected in the case.

[…]

When the nurse and her boyfriend were arrested on May 7, police said the identities of at least 50 people had been comprised. In the two weeks since then, that number has has risen to over 100 and is expected to climb, Apple said.

Read more on the Times Union.  The sheriff does not think that the funeral home had anything to do with this.
