The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) reports:
An undertaking to respond in a quicker and more effective manner to losses of personal data has been signed by London Borough of Barking & Dagenham.
According to the undertaking, on September 10, 2013, the ICO was informed that that London Borough of Barking & Dagenham had sent a letter containing personal data to an incorrect address. The letter contained a case file with medical data relating to 11 children.
The medical information in the file was not particularly detailed. Attempts were made to contact the recipient by telephone and letter, but these did not result in the retrieval of the information, and five months later, the letter still had not been retrieved.
This was not the first time the ICO had advised London Borough of Barking & Dagenham about speeding up recovery of lost files or records.
